DESCRIPTION:
A reverse osmosis (RO) vessel is a tubular pressure vessel that houses the RO membranes and withstands the high pressures required for RO systems. RO vessels are typically made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) and are often painted white to reduce algae growth.
Here are some characteristics of RO vessels:
Design
RO vessels are designed to accommodate a variety of membrane module diameters, from 2.5 in for tap water to 18 in for industrial use.
Construction
RO vessels are made by winding a mixture of glass fiber and epoxy resin around a precision-machined mandrill. The manufacturing process is computer controlled to ensure the vessel has a perfectly circular interior.
Pressure
RO vessels are capable of withstanding high pressures, such as 1000 psi (70 bar) for continuous working and 1500 psi (104 bar) for testing.
Temperature
RO vessels can operate in temperatures ranging from 23° F (-5° C) to 120° F (+49° C).
Arrangement
In a two-stage RO system, the reject from each stage becomes the feed for the next stage.
Identification
The brand and model of an RO system can usually be found on the metal or plastic manifold that holds the filters in place.
